About this ZingTrain Seminar

  • Zingerman’s 12 Natural Laws of Business or Raising Awareness of the “Other” Energy Crisis

In 1982 Ari Weinzweig and his partner Paul Saginaw opened a small, 25-seat delicatessen.  Today the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses includes 8 different businesses (all in the Ann Arbor area) with 500 employees and close to $40 million in annual sales.  In this workshop, Ari will share the approach to business that has led to Zingerman’s success, including the natural laws of business as introduced in his book, Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading: Part 1, A Lapsed Anarchist’s Approach to Building a Great Business.  In this interactive and hands-on workshop, Ari will explain why operating in violation of these laws has created an energy crisis in the American workplace and how you can counteract that trend in your own organization.

You’ll learn about Zingerman’s wackily sound ways to manage an organization and learn about concepts like the power of Visioning (where you actually figure out what you want your organization to look like before you write the strategic plan), Servant Leadership (where the bosses serve the staff), Bottom-Line Change® (a very workable recipe for organizational change that gets people at every level of the company helping to make change happen) and Stewardship (questioning the traditional relationship between power and authority).

Zingerman’s approach is applicable whether you’re running a law office, a library, a restaurant, a record label, a software firm, or an organic farm, with behind-the-scenes “secrets” that are invaluable in building a special, sustainable business of any kind.

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to :

  • Explain the “12 Natural Laws of Business,” as interpreted and applied by Zingerman’s.
  • Use a variety of new tools and techniques to leverage these laws and bring new energy and inspiration to your own organization.
  • Call upon a network of peers to help get past roadblocks.
